An acclaimed new translation by Susan Reynolds<\/p>\n

Along with M\u00e1cha\u2019s M\u00e1j and N\u0115mcov\u00e1\u2019s Babi\u010dka, the poetic cycle Kytice by Karel Jarom\u00edr Erben is one of the best-loved and indeed most important creations of 19C Czech literature. Curator of the British Library\u2019s Czech and Slovak collections, Susan Reynolds is responsible for this new, definitive translation of Erben\u2019s masterpiece inspired by the folk tales of which he was an assiduous collector, among its gems The Water Goblin and The Noonday Witch. Published in late December 2013, Susan\u2019s dual-language translation has already become a best-seller among both Czech and English-language readers. As well as reading from the poems, Susan will describe how she came to the task of translating this classic and give some insights into the process of doing so. She will be introduced by Michael Tate of Jantar Publishing, specialists in the translation of poetry in the languages of Central and Eastern Europe.
